I finally encrypted some partitions of my hard drive.
An external hard drive that I just bought (320 Gb) that allowed me to back up my entire /home partition and consider encrypting it.

Slow performance in VMWARE using Ubuntu ?
WMWare does not really work out of the box on Ubuntu.
There is an issue concerning the ACPI, which makes the guest machine so slow that it is barely usable.
